The new desktop environment for ByzantineOS will be a application container for single-application devices powered by embedded linux.

Preview Release

To test the first preview release of Byzgl Desktop you will need a copy of XULRunner, which can be downloaded from here.

Instructions for installing Byzgl Desktop:

  • download byzgl-desktop.tar.gz
  • untar byzgl-desktop.tar.gz
  • cd byzgl-desktop/desktop
  • untar xulrunner-1.8.0.1.en-US.linux-i686.tar.gz (inside the desktop directory - this will create the xulrunner directory)
  • cp ./xulrunner/xulrunner-stub ./desktop
  • execute the ./desktop binary (the byzgl-desktop window should appear)

To install the Web Browser extension (extensions/browser.xpi) click on Install Extension... from the start menu (bottom-left button).

After restarting Byzgl Desktop click on Applications->Web Browser from the start menu to launch the Web Browser extension.

That's it.
